The care village concept offers a unique combination of independence and security of lifestyle within a socially active and supportive community. The result is that older people are able to continue to live in a home of their own, supported by a comprehensive and flexible network of personal care services and activities. Research has shown that physical and mental activity is vital to a happy and fulfilling later life.
The proposed community Anchor is offering at Yateley will be committed to creating an environment where life revolves around person- centred relationships with staff, other residents and friends. This means a better quality of life and minimising loneliness, helplessness and boredom which accounts for much of the distress experienced by the elderly.
There are around 5,000 people over the age of 85 living within a 20-minute drive of the proposed retirement development at Yateley and this is projected to almost double to 9,800 by 2025. The over 65s will increase from 40,000 to 57,600 over the same period.
Recent research has shown that there will be a shortfall of 186 care beds in 2012, rising to 399 by 2015 and 1,281 by 2025.
The village at Yateley will help meet this shortfall and service the sector of the population that currently has little choice for the kind of care accommodation we are proposing. Today’s older generation has different expectations and aspirations, which Anchor recognises, not least in respect of individual’s lifestyles and care needs.
The care village concept offers a real choice to meet the expectations and aspirations of the next generation of older people.
